What the Stats Say...Accrington

Despite its uncanny resemblance to binary code, Matt Peck's stats this week are in fact related to Oxford's home meeting against Accrington Stanley (last season's 0-0 draw). Not a long history of fixtures between these two clubs, with both clubs still looking to score their first ever goal against the other.

OTHER STATS

These two teams played each other for the first time in the 2010/2011 season.

The game at Oxford was a 0-0 draw, with both sides perhaps suffering a Carling Cup hangover, having both faced Premier League sides in the week.

A Reversal of Fortunes: Despite not playing each other very often, both clubs share some history. Oxford United replaced Accrington in 1962 when they resigned from the Football League. When the original Accrington collapsed, a new club was re-born in 1968. Climbing its way through the football pyramid it eventually got promoted back to the Football League in April 2006 in the place of freshly relegated Oxford United.

Accrington was 1 of only 4 clubs who failed to find the net at the Kassam last season. Morecambe, Chesterfield and Burton being the other teams. Despite this, Accrington had a good 2010/2011 season, achieving a play off place, against the start of season odds.
