What the Stats Say...Bristol Rovers

Matt Peck returns to give us the stats on Bristol Rovers, ahead of tomorrow's Ultimate Support Saturday match. With over 20 league matches between the two sides at Oxford going back as far as 1965 there's plenty of history to this fixture. Bristol Rovers will be looking to get revenge for the 6-1 pasting we gave them in the League Cup last season, but their manager Paul Buckle is unbeaten at the Kassam from his time in charge of Torquay.

OTHER STATS

Throughout the 90’s and early 00’s Oxford and Bristol shared a similar downward trajectory through the football pyramid. As a result they played each other in all but 4 seasons between 1990/91 and 2005/06. The “missing seasons” were 1993/94, 1996/97, 1997/98 and 1998/99.

The last time the two met in any competition was in the Carling Cup 1st Round last season. The result was the biggest winning margin Oxford enjoyed all season, running out 6-1 winners. Unfortunately for Bristol, it wasn’t the last time they conceded 6 goals in a game that season, having conceded the same amount against Walsall and Sheffield Wed.

Oxford and Bristol have had contrasting form over recent weeks. Oxford are unbeaten in 5 games, while Bristol have lost 2 of their last 3 games. Rovers will have confidence as Oxford have struggled to kill games off at home, winning just one of their 5 home games and drawing the other 4.

When the two last met in the league. Oxford walked away with a valuable win, which would have eased relegation fears a little. However, Oxford would go onto win just 2 more that season and losing 5, condemning them to relegation.
