What the Stats Say...Cardiff

After providing a great stats package ahead of Saturday's opening day defeat to Rotherham, we again extend thanks to Matt Peck, who has dug out these stats on Oxford's League Cup record against Cardiff.

League Cup

Played: 2
Oxford Wins: 2
Cardiff Wins: 0
Oxford and Cardiff played in a two legged tie in August 1978, Oxford won both legs 2-1 and progressed into the next round, where they faced Plymouth Argyle.

League Cup Runs
Oxford won the League Cup in 1986, beating QPR 3-0 at Wembley.
Cardiff City have never reached a final of the league cup, the closest they got was in 1965-66, when they got to the Semi-Final, where they were beaten 10-3 on aggregate by West Ham.
Cardiff have however won the FA Cup, in 1927. They did so by beating Arsenal 1-0 with a 74th minute winner from Hughie Ferguson.

Last Season's League Cup Run
Oxford:
Round 1: Beat Bristol Rovers 6-2.
Round 2. Beaten by West Ham United 1-0.

Cardiff:
Round 1: Beat Burton Albion 4-1 (aet)
Round 2: Beaten by Peterborough United 2-1.

The last time Oxford and Cardiff met in any competition was in January 2000. A goal for Oxford's Matt Murphy just before Half Time, followed by a Kevin Nugent back heel for Cardiff just after Half Time meant the result was a 1-1 draw.
